Dorothy's Beauty Salon is located near the University of Memphis in a lovely community called Orange Mound, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016. Our locally owned salon is located on the corner of a national historic street, Park Ave. This area was a plantation previously until the land was given to black people which allowed it to become the first black neighborhood in the area thriving with all black homeowners and businesses.
Mrs. Horhn was born under meager circumstances in the Mississippi Delta in a feudal system called sharecropping. This humbling experience instilled in her a strong work ethic and survival skills. She became resourceful and versatile. Her leadership and managerial skills continued to blossom during her formative childhood years. This is reflective of why she was a very successful leader in the Hair Care Industry.
Now, it is known as "Soulsville". It is the home to Stax Recording Studio, the residence of Madame Ida B. Wells, and the home LeMoyne Owen College.
